For one of our Field Trips in April we went to the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum in Tacoma. Unlike last time we went, there was an actual event and the fort was full of period actors with lots of hands-on opportunities. The girls (and I) had much more fun than I anticipated. We were there for an hour and a half and we could have easily stayed for another hour. We watched the blacksmith make S hooks and I explained this is how our s’more roasters for camping were made. The girls got to drill holes in some wood for the garden. They played the children’s games and tried to the stilts. They grinded coffee by hand and saw the butter being made. They watched the ladies spin fleece into wool yarn. And the number one thing that October enjoyed was helping the ladies weed the garden! Seriously! She was SO excited when the ladies allowed her to take home a daisy (i.e. weed) to plant. I love having so many great places and educational places to take the kids!
