Started my new job yesterday. It was eerily the same – the bus ride, the lady selling newspapers, the homeless man asking for money. I was excited and nervous all at the same time… I’m not really sure why I was so nervous. Maybe because our move was actually real rather than sometime in the future but either way my nervousness subsided 10 minutes after walking in the door. I thought timing getting a WA drivers license may be hard because I thought I would need one to drive the van for the YMCA but I can use my MI one – so that makes things less hairy. Jeff went to school and everyone was very welcoming. When we went to school on Tuesday – even the custodian recognized both Jeff & me – a stark contrast to Mattawan, where some people didn’t really seem to recognize Jeff and certainly not me. We also meet with a real estate agent & mortage fellow last night – mostly getting information and them explaining a bit about the process. They talked & talked & talked and told stories, I was close to just saying “ok – lets stay on task here” because they would tell us one thing and follow it up with 2 stories about what happened with other people or “in the past.” We were trying to get them to hurry up becuase some of friends got together after work with us so they were waiting for us to arrive. I plan to set up appointments with 2 others so I can pick which one I like the best. They seemed a little hesitant to pre-approve us or even move forward prior to Jeff actually having a job here – but really he already has a job (and a paycheck) through August. Yesterday, everyone seemed very encouraging and positive that Jeff would have a job in the district and the schools are just now working on student class assignments for next year which is when they will really be able to tell what & how many teachers they need. So hopefully, a placement will happen soon so that we can get moving on finding a condo.

Jeff leaves tomorrow morning. We did figure out that it was closer to 2 months than 3 months… which made me feel a LITTLE better. It’s still a long time. We plan to stay down near the airport tonight, go out for dinner and then I’ll take him to the airport in the morning before work, although his flight doesn’t leave until 11am I wanted to see him off. I’m sad just thinking about it!

I’ll be getting a cell phone this weekend. As well as finally doing our taxes… so that will be GREAT fun. I plan to sit around a relax a bit also… maybe go for a bike ride or hike… maybe even make it to the cardio kickboxing class I have been missing. My legs could definitely tell I hadn’t worked out in a while when I had to walk up the hill to work yesterday. It was nice though just walking around rather than driving… I’ll have to hit the library and get a book for my bus ride!

Hope all is well! -amanda
